Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:
- Hundreds of local students were given the chance to see the new Black Panther movie, “Wakanda Forever,” thanks to community member contributions. Ten local organizers teamed up to rent out three movie theaters to screen the movie to a total of 450 lucky kids. Organizer Michael Silva said, “We’re eager to provide an opportunity for kids to see themselves on the screen, which is not all that common for black youth.” (KRQE News 13)
- Local authorities have issued a warning about a new kidnapping scam that has been targeting parents and guardians at New Mexico Catholic schools. A statement issued Nov. 9 by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, which covers Albuquerque and much of northern New Mexico, says the callers demand ransom in the form of a credit card payment in exchange for the return of the supposedly kidnapped child. Parents are advised to contact the local police department and archdiocese school officials if they receive such a call. ()
- The Albuquerque Police Department and the FBI are seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred Saturday morning at Bank of the West on Eubank Boulevard. The FBI is offering up to $2,000 in rewards for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, who is described as a Caucasian male around six feet tall. Tips can be submitted online or by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI. (KRQE News 13)
