7 year old car accident in Albuquerque died

The 7-year-old, who was hit by a car near Nob Hill earlier this week, has died, Albuquerque police told KOAT. The child was walking on a sidewalk when they stepped on the lane on Lead Avenue near Montclaire Drive and was hit by an oncoming car. Witnesses told Albuquerque police that the boy walked west on the north side of Lead Avenue just before 5 p.m. Tuesday in an attempt to get the boy’s attention. When they did so, they informed the police that the boy suddenly turned left and stepped out into the street. The boy was hit by someone driving a black Dodge Charger boy. Police said they don’t think alcohol was a factor in the crash, but they believe speed was. The boy was transported to the UNMH, where he died of his injuries. Police say the criminal investigation department is investigating why the child was traveling alone.

Police said the witnesses told officers that they did not consider it safe that the boy was walking in the area alone, so they tried to get the boy’s attention. When they did so, they informed the police that the boy suddenly turned left and stepped into the street.

The boy was hit by someone driving a black Dodge Charger.

Witnesses said the driver broke his brakes but was unable to stop in time and hit the boy.

Police said they don’t think alcohol was a factor in the accident, but they believe speed was it.

The boy was transported to the UNMH, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say the criminal investigation department is investigating why the child was traveling alone.
