The number of grievous bodily harm incidents rose 12% in the United States in 2020. The surge, which was the driving force behind the 5% year-over-year increase in the overall rate of violent crime in the United States, has driven the aggravated injury rate soaring.s highest Level in over a decade.

According to the FBI, grievous bodily harm is an unlawful physical assault on one person by another person with the aim of heavy injectionury or harm. Heavy attacks are often carried out with a deadly weapon such as a knife, pistol, or a blunt blowObject. Most Cases of grievous bodily harm occur in private homes, but the majority also take place on public roads or sidewalks.

Grievous bodily harm is by far the most widely reported violent crime in the United States, accounting for approximately 70% of the 1.3 million violent crimes reported in 2020. However, the rate of grievous bodily harm varies across the country, and in some places grievous bodily harm is far more common than in others.

Using data from the FBI’s 2020 Uniform Crime Report, Wall St. 24/7 identified the 50 cities with the most serious attacks. Cities are ranked according to their rate of serious assault – specifically, the number of reported cases of serious assault per 100,000 inhabitants. Only cities with more than 25,000 inhabitants were taken into account.

The rate of serious attacks nationwide is 280 per 100,000. Among the cities on this list, major assault rates are much higher – they range from 818 reported incidents per 100,000 residents to a rate of 2,583 per 100,000.

Grave injury is one of four broad categories of violent crime – along with rape, robbery, and manslaughter – and every city on this list also has an overall violent crime rate that is more than double the 399 per 100,000 national rate.
