DH Lescombes Winery and Bistro is among the best in the nation

LAS CRUCES – Grab a corkscrew because a restaurant and winery in the area was just named one of the top 100 restaurants in the country.

Yelp – the ratings app of diners’ favorite – recently released their list of the “Top 100 US Restaurants of 2022.” DH Lescombes Winery and Bistro, at 1720 Avenida de Mesilla, was ranked 47th on the list. No other New Mexico restaurant made the list — including Santa Fe, a city known for taking pride in its cuisine and restaurants.

“At the helm of this bistro are 6th-generation French winemaking brothers who inherited the family’s New Mexico wine business, founded by their father in the 1980s,” reads a blurb explaining why the restaurant was chosen. “A true partnership between the winemakers and a chef (each entree suggests a specific wine pairing), the menu features French inspiration such as Steak Béarnaise paired with Cabernet Franc, Crème Brûlée paired with St Clair Kiva and French onions Soup with a dash of Merlot. Diners will also find American dishes (often with a touch of the Southwest).”

According to Yelp, “diners love the baked brie drizzled with local lavender honey,” which is served with the winery’s Heritage Bellissimo sparkling wine.”

The restaurant is also known for its New Mexico pasta — featuring sautéed chicken breasts and green hatch chile, the review says, suggesting it pairs well with the winery’s traditional pinot gris.

A “Yelper” identified as Alex W. left this review:

“I cannot express how good this place is. Come on a date or double date with close friends. Bring the people you love the most because they will love you even more after showing them this restaurant.”

According to Yelp, the company’s methodology for creating the list was to educate users about their favorite restaurants.

“Then we ranked them based on total submissions, ratings, reviews, geographic representation, among other things.”

Two restaurants in El Paso were on the list. Nomi, an Asian fusion/ramen restaurant in North Mesa, was ranked #57. The Kitchen at 150 Sunset, a breakfast and brunch restaurant on East Sunset Road, was ranked #63.
