Fly direct from Burbank to Albuquerque early next year

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA – Southwest Airlines will offer a daily non-stop flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport to Albuquerque International Sunport beginning early next year, the airline announced on Thursday.

The Albuquerque Film Office announced that the first daily service between the two cities, the flights should begin on January 17, 2022. They will provide easier access to the studios for New Mexico filmmakers who would normally fly to LAX.

“The Sunport is New Mexico’s connection to the world, and the service to and from Burbank is a huge boost as filming continues to expand in our state,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This new service not only provides better connections to our film industry, but also opens new doors for economic development and tourism with Southern California – a win for building a gateway to the southwest.”

Southwest officials said the flights build on their business as a “point-to-point airline” by providing travelers with faster travel between New Mexico and the San Fernando Valley, the Albuquerque Film Office said.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased on the Southwest website.

Albuquerque has been looking forward to Burbank for a “long time”, said Nyika Allen, the city’s aviation director.

“This option will certainly strengthen our ties with the film industry,” said Allen. “Today’s announcement from Southwest is exciting and welcome news as we continue to recover and recover from COVID-19.”
