Fraud calls reported by fake law enforcement agencies in Las Cruces

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – According to Las Cruces Police, someone is calling people saying they are a police detective.

The LCPD says the person says the calls were a scam and the person says they are “Detective Michael Henke” from the civil department. The LCPD says there is no civil department and a supervisor named Michael Henke, but he did not make the calls.

The police ask anyone who receives or has received such a call to call the police at (575) 526-0795.

LCPD urges the community to follow safety tips to avoid fraud. Tips include avoiding giving financial information over the phone, avoiding conversations with unwanted callers, clicking any number for a menu, and blocking the caller.

You can also register your phone number with the Do Not Call Registry through the Federal Trade Commission. More information can be found here.
