On Saturday, February 12, it’s time for families to learn Spanish and English and get some exercise together when Andrés and Christina, Latin Grammy Award-winning musical duo 123 Andrés, perform the JAI at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts take over center in La Jolla .
123 Andrés (pronounced uno, dos, tres Andrés) was dubbed “a rock star for little language learners” by Billboard magazine. They have performed to audiences across the United States and in Puerto Rico, Panama, Mexico and Colombia, delighting children and families with an eclectic mix of sounds from all corners of Latin America. Fusing folk-based rhythms like vallenato and champeta with upbeat pop, the husband-wife duo create a winning combination for listeners of all ages that features top-notch musicianship and rich instrumentation. (Winner of the Latin Grammy for Best Children’s Album and nominated three times.)
Andrés grew up in Bogotá, Colombia and learned to play the guitar from his father at an early age. He began recording in the studio at the age of 8, after which he earned his doctorate in music and won the national composition competition in Colombia for one of his early songs. Christina grew up in the Midwest in a Spanish-speaking immigrant family from Colombia. Her love of the stage began when her mother signed her up for theater and dance as a child. After college, she worked in the classroom as a public school teacher and received a master’s degree in education. When she joined 123 Andrés, she found her calling to teach through music.
123 Andrés will be performing two shows on Saturday February 12th at 9:30am and 11:30am at JAI, a fun space perfect for dancing and jumping around. Masks are required for all participants, regardless of vaccination status, and proof of vaccination or negative test for all participants 12 years and older.
