James (Jim) W. Howerton – Chillicothe News Constitution-Tribune

James (Jim) W. Howerton, 70, of Chillicothe, Missouri died peacefully on Monday, December 5th during a short stay with hospice.

He was born November 12, 1952 in Waverly, Missouri to the late Charles and Maudeen (Howery) Howerton. He married to Greta L (Pierce) Howerton of Higginsville, Missouri. He worked at Cunningham Plumbing supply then Chillicothe Municipal Utilities in 1991, retiring after 28 years as a Water Plant Operator.

He was happiest while spending time with his grandchildren, family and working in the yard. In his younger years he was an explorer scout and enjoyed camping and float trips with Mr Bradbury. Mr Bradbury was a mentor to Jim that he looked up to and admired all of this life. He would always speak fondly of him and how much he meant to him when he was a child.

Survived by his wife Greta Howerton of Chillicothe, Missouri; brother Roger Howerton of Madison, Wisconsin; two children Amy (James) Evangelista of Greenwood, Missouri; Jason Showengerdt, McPherson, Kansas. Six grandchildren Jackson Jones of Alberquerque, New Mexico; Trenton Schowengerdt of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Jason Schowengerdt Jr. of Hutchison, Kansas; Morgan Jones of Farmington, New Mexico; Rosario Schowengerdt of McPherson, Kansas; and Zachary Evangelista of Greenwood, Missouri as well has several nieces and nephews.

Jim’s wishes were to have no funeral services but for family to gather, remember the good times, be together and be happy.
