UNM men’s basketball defeated Montana State in the pit on Saturday, 81-78

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – UNM men’s basketball won its second straight game, improving its overall record to 3-1 with an 81-78 win over Montana State. This was a good win for this young Lobo team as Montana had a lot more experience and could have been a big problem with their big guys.

“I think this is one of the first games where we had a little bit of adversity. I mean, we were like 2 or 4 behind in the second half. You know, we knew it was going to be a dog fight and I think we showed the trainer we could handle adversity, ”said UNM Guard Jamal Mashburn Jr.

Mashburn led all scorers with 21 points, KJ Jenkins also scored 17 points in this game, while he went 4-5 out of 3-point range. However, Gethro Muscadin really stood out in this win as he scored a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. UNM overtook their opponent on Saturday when they finished at 33 and Montana had 32.

UNM basketball coach Richard Pitino believes this was a determining factor. “That’s why we won the game, I really think so. It’s not a piece that we played, it’s not pick-and-roll coverage, nothing like that. That’s because we finally bounced the ball back, ”said coach Pitino.

UNM will host West New Mexico on Monday and the game will start at 7pm
