Walter Katzer Obituary (1946-2021) – Ottawa, KS

On December 11, 2021, Walter D. “Dave” Katzer, 75, of Wellsville, Kansas, stepped into eternity to meet his awaiting Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are all confident that Dave saw his Savior better and “howled, screamed, and praised the Lord” at the sight.
Dave was a light shining on a hill for the gospel of Christ and sharing the soul saving message with many with whom he came in contact.
Memorial services will be held at Crosspointe Community Church, 621 N. Poplar St, Ottawa, 66067 on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with military honors from the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Dave was born on June 14, 1946 in Garnett, Kansas, to Walter Henry and Irene Agatha (Heiman) Katzer.
He lived in Farmington, New Mexico from 1975 to 1998, in Richmond, Kansas from 2000 to 2004, and moved to Wellsville, where he lived until his death.
He graduated from Northern Heights High School in Allen, Kansas with the 1964 class. Dave continued his education at Oklahoma State University and several other colleges. Dave’s professional training was highlighted by training at the Volkswagen factory in Germany.
Dave served in the US Army in Vietnam from December 1965 to August 1972, attaining the SP5 rank.
On December 13, 1969, Dave was married to the love of his life, Kathy Moyen, in Leominster, Massachusetts.
Dave was self-employed for the first half of his career. From the mid-1970s to the early 1990s, he worked for Dave’s Imported Parts & Service in Farmington, New Mexico. Then for the Farmington Municipal Schools in New Mexico as a school bus mechanic and driver from the early 1990s to the late 1990s; Swift Trucking from the late 1990s to the early 2000s; and TSI as the Mechanic / Truck Driver from the early 2000s through his retirement in 2019. Dave was duly elected to the position of $ 289 board member on November 2, 2021. He was very much looking forward to the future on the school board.
He was a member of Crosspointe Community Church in Ottawa, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, leader of a men’s group, and usher.
Dave enjoyed getting involved in his church community, riding motorcycles, talking on his CB radio, and working on cars. He was very patriotic, liked to read, was a nature lover who liked to go camping and use his chainsaw. Dave pursued his love for flying and got his pilot’s license. Most of all, Dave loved helping others, spending time with family and especially his grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy, from the home; five children, John Katzer (Lisa) and Judy Furman from Texas, Jim Katzer (Cara), Jamin Katzer and Sarah Katzer from Colorado; four siblings, Damian Katzer (Barbara), Julie Bennett (George) and Mary Katherine Katzer from Colorado, and Karl Katzer from Texas; and eleven grandchildren, Makenzie, Austin, Nicholas, Katie, Eliana, Emily, Hannah, James, Nathaniel, Samuel and Makaylan.
