Prep Game Report: Cushing 2, Dexter 1

Ashburnham, Mass. — Jacob Kamps’ goal with 5:13 to play in the second period was the difference as Cushing Academy defeated Dexter, 2-1, in an early season matchup of prep hockey heavyweights at the Iorio Arena.

With the score tied 1-1, the Penguins’ top line wen to work. St. Lawrence commits Marc McLaughlin made a nice pass to Max Brainin at the blue line. Brainin drove down towards the side of the net before dishing it off to Kamps, who wasted no time in burying a hard, low shot past Dexter goaltender Aidan Murphy.

Cushing jumped out to a 1-0 lead about midway through the first period on a similar transition sequence. Jeffrey Morgan snapped off a quick shot from the high slot after the puck was lost on somewhat of a broken play. Ashton Fry was credited with the primary assist for bringing the puck over the blue line and into the zone.

Dexter tied the score just over a minute into the second. Harvard recruit Jack Rathbone made a great play, pokechecking the puck away from a Penguin forward entering the zone. Rathbone quickly picked up the puck and sent Pat Daly in all alone on Cushing goaltender Joey Halstrom. The speedy Daly went straight in and chipped a shot over the glove of Halstrom and into the back of the net.

Murphy, a first year prep goaltender who transferred from Xaverian, was outstanding. He made a ton of saves to keep Dexter in the game, including two toe saves on shots from point blank range in the second period.

The game was entertaining and there were glimpses from both teams showing why they will be top ten teams in prep hockey, but there were plenty of early season mistakes. One such mistake was an errant clearing attempt by Cushing that almost ended up in the back of its net in the waning moments of the game.

Note

Dexter ’97 LW Jack Donato had a good game on the line with O’Brien and Nisbet. He played well away from the puck, was physical and provided some glue to his more skilled linemates.

Rathbone was the best player on the ice for both teams. He was solid in his own end and was his usual stellar self moving the puck up ice. His skating and footwork was so impressive and he logged a ton of minutes.

Dexter was without ’99 Dartmouth commit Sean Keohan on his blue line. The junior suffered an injury in one of the team’s exhibition games.

Late ’99 Bobby Pearl, the son of Harvard associate head coach Paul Pearl, was solid and showed some promise on the Dexter blue line.

’98 John Femia made a good first impression after coming over from Canton High School. He’s a good skater who centered Dexter’s top line with Kevin Hock and Pat Daly.

Berube, a ’00 LD from Haverhill, saw a lot of minutes in his first regular season prep action after playing public school hockey as a freshman. He’s a smooth skater who didn’t look like a ’00 out there. He’s undersized, but he’s a player to keep an eye on.

The Cushing fourth line scored the team’s first goal and had several other good shifts. ’98 junior Ashton Fry, seeing his first varsity action, was a big reason why. The Colorado native was quick and brought a lot of energy.

Kamps and McLaughlin combined to make some nice plays and have an impact with their size and strength.

We last saw Max use his powers to stop Flint Manes from instigating an alien genocide – potentially killing himself for a second time after resurrecting Rosa in season 1 – while Alex and Greggory confronted their xenomorph-hating father Jesse Manes as he unwittingly clutched a bioweapon designed to kill anyone with his DNA.

A tradition that has long been in existence once again unfolds as ALA Promotions staged a boxing event for this year’s Sinulog celebration. Twelve pairs of young up-and-coming boxers from different areas in Cebu showcased their fistic talent to a sizeable crowd that showed up at the carpark of Gaisano Country Mall. A threat of heavy rainfall didn’t deter the aspiring open boxing pugs to go all out for the victory as the day has seen erratic weather conditions.

John Michael Casinto of Cabancalan wins a UD against Rodel Manego of Pagsabungan in 21 kgs., Clinton Martinez of Phil-Aust Boxing Club wins over Emmanuel Galo of Lapu-Lapu City via UD, David Tugot of Talamban defeated Clinton Pongasi of Phil-Aust Boxing Club, Ryan Montrano of Bogo City wins a UD vs. Roswel Nocos of Balamban.

Fifth bout saw Christian Gabriel Gingoyon of Lapu-Lapu City/ 10,000 BC Boxing Club victorious anew against Erick Miguel Austria of Cabancalan in 38 kgs via UD, King Justy Ala Villamor of Mandaue City defeated Emerald Pishko of 10,000 BC Boxing Club via UD, Ramil Castanares of Mandaue registers the only stoppage win of the night with a TKO in the third stanza over Phil-Aust Boxing Club’s Rey Abesia. A strong blow to the head puts Abesia on his back and when he tried to stand up quickly, he staggers back which prompted referee Alex Consigna to immediately call a halt to the bout.

Pomar brothers, Marvin and Marco both of UV boxing team, experienced contrasting fate as the former wins over Benny Magsayo via UD while elder brother Marco lost his bout against Alex Santisima.

John Nino Vega of Lilo-an, Cebu defeated Jim Paul Dignos of Phil-Aust Boxing Club via UD in 44 kgs. division. The bout featured boxing skills as well as clinching and holding with Vega using his height and reach advantage to outmanuever his shorter opponent. 10,000 BC Boxing Club’s Berland Robles edged out Cabancalan’s Patrick Gantuangco via SD while Dominique Casanares of UV boxing team defeated Mel Anthony Ando of Phil-Aust Boxing Club in 52 kgs. via UD.

Also on hand to witness the event were unbeaten Moleney twins, Andrew and Jason. Both are currently training at the ALA Boxing Gym in Talamban. The bantamweight/ junior featherweight prospects from Victoria, Australia are gearing for a tough fight against Filipino contenders Renoel Pael and Marco Demecillo, respectively in Land Down Under this February

The CW on Thursday went on something of a renewal tear, picking up additional seasons of 10 current series — aka nearly its entire lineup. The list of shows confirmed to return for the 2019-20 TV season includes The Flash, Arrow, Riverdale, Supernatural, Supergirl, Black Lightning and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Freshman entries Charmed and Legacies also scored renewals, as did (wait for it) perpetual cellar-dweller Dynasty.

That leaves rookie dramas All American and Roswell, New Mexico as well as The 100 as the lone remaining bubble series at The CW. (Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie are all in — or about to be in — their final seasons.)

    RELATED STORIES

TVLine’s 2019 Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect all 10 pickups.

The Flash stands as The CW’s top-rated show for a fifth straight year, currently averaging just under a 0.7 demo rating and 1.8 million viewers. Riverdale, Arrow, Supernatural and Supergirl follow, all in the 0.4 range. Legacies and Charmed are both averaging a pretty steady 0.33 in their freshman runs, while Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow (on hiatus until April) trail closely behind. Dynasty, averaging under a 0.2 (with barely 600,000 total viewers), benefits from being a CBS production, its well-known IP, and international considerations.

As the only fall launch that has yet to be picked up, All American stands as The CW’s lowest rated and least watched freshman series, averaging a 0.24 and 700K viewers. It also delivers one of the smallest DVR playback bumps (+58%) of all CW dramas.

“This season, we expanded our primetime schedule to six nights with the addition of Sunday — which has been an unqualified success for the network, our affiliates and our advertisers,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “In addition to growing our schedule across the week, we also continue to add more year-round programming… [W]e look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront.”

Katherine Heigl Joins Robert Luketic’s Five Killers

    by Alex Billington
    February 19, 2009

“Grey’s Anatomy” actress Katherine Heigl has signed on to star opposite Ashton Kutcher in the Lionsgate thriller Five Killers. We announced that Kutcher would be joining back in October, so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of it. Five Killers is being directed by Robert Luketic, of 21 and The Ugly Truth, and was originally written by Bob DeRosa (The Air I Breathe), with Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven, Matchstick Men) handling the rewrite. The story kicks off when a woman marries the man of her dreams (Kutcher), but their lives are turned upside down when they discover that their neighbors may be assassins hired to kill them.

I’m going to be frank and say that I’m not that fond of Katherine Heigl. Why is everyone sticking up for her? She had a big break with Knocked Up, which I admit she was great in, but now every future project she gets attached to, everyone seems to complain. Oh, why isn’t she doing something better for her career? I don’t hate Heigl by any means, but I’m not going to stick up for her and give her more credit than she deserves! She’s just another run-of-the-mill good looking actress who has a good TV show and got big because Judd Apatow made her look good. That said, I’m curious to see what Five Killers is all about. Thoughts?

People not happy with NPP, claims Banteidor

SHILLONG, Jan 4: Just days after making a sensational allegation that the ruling NPP had offered him Rs 5 crore to join the party, PDF working president and Cabinet Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Wednesday fired another salvo at the Conrad Sangma-led party by claiming that people were not very happy with the performance of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
“There is a mixed reaction to the performance of the ruling coalition. I would admit that the people are not very happy,” Lyngdoh said.
PDF president Gavin Miguel Mylliem went a step further, claiming that his party had not endorsed every decision taken by the MDA despite being in the coalition.
“We had raised issues whether it was the irregularities in the MeECL or the rice scam. We had also objected to the government’s proposal to set up casinos in the state. We had always met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and raised the issues whenever we were unhappy with any decision taken by the government,” Mylliem said.
Referring to the interstate border issue, Lyngdoh said the PDF was not made part of the border resolution process. “We weren’t even included in the regional committees,” he pointed out.
The PDF leaders claimed that the party had ably played a constructive role as partners of the coalition.
They were candid in admitting that the PDF, with just four MLAs, was not in a position to topple the government even if they wanted.
Talking about the party’s prospects in the elections, Lyngdoh said the party was focusing on winning the maximum number of seats. Asked about the PDF’s future, Lyngdoh said the PDF would be a part of the next government. Lyngdoh also ruled any pre-poll alliance with any political party. But he admitted that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had approached the PDF for a pre-poll pact.
Earlier, the party released its first list of candidates for the forthcoming Assembly polls. The list contains eight names.
Mylliem, who is the party president as well as the sitting MLA, will seek to retain his Sohra seat while Cabinet Minister and sitting MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh will contest from Mawkynrew.
PDF general secretary Auspicious L Mawphlang will contest from Mawphlang constituency.
The list also contains the names of Shembok Garod from Raliang, Roswel Shadap from Mawhati, Donlang Sohkhlet from Umsning, Romeo Phira Rani from East Shillong and Egenstar Kurkalang from Nongkrem.
Mylliem said the party will release a second list in the coming days.
It may be added that two sitting PDF MLAs – Hamletson Dohling (Mylliem) and Jason S Mawlong (Umsning) are likely to join the NPP in the next three days.
Asked about the exit of the two sitting MLAs, Mylliem admitted that it would affect the party.
“But we cannot stop them from joining another party since it is their individual choice,” he said.

Roswell UFO RETURNS: Couple terrified after object swoops over car in dead of night | Weird | news

A married couple have reported to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) a bizarre UFO appearing over their car as they stopped in the town in New Mexico, which was the scene of an infamous alleged flying saucer crash in July 1947.

The unnamed woman, who made the report, claimed about 24 hours later she saw a black helicopter with a mystery large load hanging underneath.

MUFON, based in the US, is the world’s biggest organization dedicated to UFO and alien research, and keeps a database of sightings submitted by the public.

She reported to MUFON she and her husband were driving from Albuquerque to Carlsbad when they stopped in Roswell for food, before heading off again.

She wrote: “Stopping at a red light, behind a couple cars, in our truck we both noticed, and said out loud, the object that was coming straight towards us from the dark sky.

“I didn’t have time to take out my camera or to think really because I didn’t want to miss what was happening.

“The object had lights on all ends, the front (or back) was more triangular with bright white lights, the back (or front) which was closest to us was more rounded but still triangular and had bright red, green and blue lights shining down.

Roswell has been at the heart of the UFO scene since the military announced in a press release it had found the remains of a crashed flying saucer in the nearby desert, in July 1947.

But the following day it retracted the statement, saying it was in fact a damaged US Air Force air balloon.

Witnesses later came forward to say there had been alien bodies within the “crashed craft”, which – along with the wreckage – were then taken to the mysterious top-secret Area 51 military base in Nevada.

The town has been a hot bed of UFO sightings ever since with 44 cases repotted to MUFON since 2002.

MUFON investigates sightings such as this, but points out on its website that most so-called UFO sightings can be given a rational explanation.

ELDORET, Kenya, Jul 24- In the absence of defending champions Upper Hill High School from Nairobi, pre-favorites St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale and Kakamega High’s Green Commandos showed early intent after winning their opening games of the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association boys’ football on Tuesday in Eldoret.

St. Anthony’s Kitale thumped debutants Ringa Boys from Nyanza 5-0 in a mini Mashemeji derby, a game that attracted a huge number of fans while Kakamega High School won 4-1 against Eastern Region’s Kathungi.

“I am very pleased with the result today. Winning the first game with a good margin is good and it has given my boys confidence. I know we are in a tough pool but I am not afraid. I have played in these championship so many times before and winning has been a part of me,” said a confident George Owoko, the St. Anthony’s Kitale head coach.

Owoko, a former Tusker FC and Bandari FC assistant coach who won the national and East Africa title in 2016 with Kisumu’s Barding says he is confident they will win the crown.

Debutants Ringa were keen to show they were in it on merit and had an early chance after five minutes when Bill Clinton broke through with only the keeper to beat, but his finishing was wanting sending a shot straight to the keeper.

But, Owoko’s boys blew from the shadows of Ringa to break the deadlock after 12 minutes when Eli Sakenyi’s shot from distance somehow managed to grease through the butter fingers of Ringa’s custodian Roswel Otieno.

In the second half, ST. Anthony’s came back wit more venom after being restricted in most of the first half and Sakenyi doubled his tally for the game with a 66th minute goal tapping home from a defensive error.

Owoko’s boys finished off the job in the final 15 minutes of the game, James Kibendi stepping off the bench to score a late brace to see the team start off positively.

In the other pitch, Kakamega whose last conquest in the national games was 2008 in Machakos showed their intent to reclaim the trophy with a comfortable win over last year’s semi-finalists Kathungi.

Kakamega were powered by Gor Mahia midfielder Alpha Onyango and Sony Sugar’s Joshua Otieno and used their experience playing in the National Super League to make minced meat of the Eastern region reps.

“That NSL experience has really helped us to grow but in these school games, you can’t underrate anyone. We are taking a game at a time and hopefully we go on to win. It is tough but we are equal to the task,” said the Green Commandos coach Brendan Mwinamo.

Kakamega however had to come from a goal down with Kathungi breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute through Rashid Abdulrahman.

But, the hard fighting commandos went back level eight minutes later through Kevinton Machika before Otieno showed his worth with a 21st minute thumping goal from the right after the keeper failed to give the ball a powerful punch.

Machika completed his brace late on in the first half before Dan Oloo sealed the win six minutes into the second half.
