Chick-Fil-A plans to open a new restaurant across from Gateway Plaza in Santa Fe Springs.
The Santa Fe Springs Planning Commission is expected to approve the new 4,723 square foot restaurant on 13225 Telegraph Road on December 13, on the site of the existing S and P Restaurant and Sports Bar, after the hearing resumed Monday, November 8 .
The existing 10,518 square meter building will be demolished.
The city and property owners need more time to review the terms, Jimmie Wong, associate planner, told the commission.
Chick-Fil-A should be good business for the city, planning director Wayne Morrell said in a face-to-face interview Monday.
“They’re very community-minded,” said Morrell.
While some Chick-Fil-A sites – like In-N-Out and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers – are very popular, resulting in long lines of cars on the main streets, Morrell said the plans will ensure this doesn’t happen.
The proposed Chick-fil-A restaurant will include a two-lane drive-thru design that can accommodate 28 vehicles, Morrell said in the employee’s written report.
“During rush hour, Chick-fil-A offers a drive-thru management program where team members use iPads to take customer orders on the drive-thru,” Morrell wrote.
“This ordering system enables the team members to talk directly to the guests, process payments and manage the requirements within the passage. Based on data from the past, this system increases the service speed by 30% compared to the standard loudspeaker box, so that there is someone out there who can help when needed and deliver orders according to the plans presented. “
Chick-Fil-A officials did not return a voicemail message asking for comment Tuesday morning.
The location is also across Los Nietos Road from Graves Middle School, which is a good thing, headmistress Angelica De La Rosa said in a phone interview Tuesday.
“It will be great for my staff,” said De La Rosa. “You will enjoy going out for lunch and walking somewhere.”
The new restaurant will also be a source of employment for the neighborhood, she said.
