Families gather at the Albuquerque Rally for Peace

The family of 16-year-old Gabriel Garcia also came – to honor his memory.

Garcia was shot dead last weekend when he was at a party with his older brother.

“We want gun violence to decrease. This city is getting worse and worse, you hear about it all the time and we have to take a stand. We have to do something, ”said Valarie.

The organization “Dukes Up Guns Down” hosted the rally on Sunday evening and the organizers said they would like the community to see the potential power of coming together

“We live here and we know what kind of people Albuquerque is because when there are tragic events, Albuquerque can come together and that is what happens today.”

The Anzurez family said they knew this can happen too.

“We can be strong. We can defeat all this violence. There are good people out there, there are still good people and if we just keep getting together everything will be fine. We just have to be strong for our families because we Have children who grow up, ”said Valarie.

“We already have borrowed time and life in this city is just getting too short. And we have to change something, ”said Valarie.
