If you’ve been following the news closely, you should know by now that Governor Lujan Grisham signed a bill legalizing recreational cannabis in New Mexico in April 2021, effective April 1, 2022.

Many think that it is already in place and legal. It is not! It develops as we speak.

The Cannabis Control Division in the Recreational Licensing Division is now the regulator not only of recreational laws, but also of some of the things that were previously administered by the New Mexico Department of Health’s medical cannabis program.

The medical cannabis program needs to be protected and will largely remain intact, according to director Dominick Zurlo. A major change is the medical patient personal production license that is allowed to grow for personal use. From June 29th, the patient cultivation licenses will no longer be required. According to the new laws, every 21-year-old can legally grow 12 plants per household.

The CCD has a lot to clear up and will keep the public informed. It will be a long process and many questions will arise.

If you are interested in being part of the New Mexico Green Rush, you know it won’t be easy and will require guidance and lots of money. The cost of license applications, growth, manufacturing and distribution is only the first investment. According to regulators and existing producers, financing the companies requires good business acumen, deep pockets, and serious investors. Here is the link to CCD, visit there to find out – ccd.rld.state.nm.us.

There are opportunities for micro-businesses and commercial producers. If you applied for a growth license for the medical program in the past, you received no guidance from regulators, no support from existing manufacturers, and no support from banks. Apparently the system was not friendly to small businesses. That will change, according to CCD’s new superintendent, John Blair.

At the end of June, a group of us from Las Cruces attended the Legalization Cannabis Conference in Albuquerque. We were there among 300 from New Mexico to learn from regulators, manufacturers, vendors, and attorneys. We were part of the story in the making. We are excited to be part of an economic boom for New Mexico. The Green Rush is here.

NMMCP Consulting has been advising, certifying and accompanying patients since 2007. Patients have been interested in the cannabis industry for over 15 years. There are many excellent cannabis growers among us and there will be jobs in the industry now. The doors to the industry are open; they were closed for far too long for most New Mexicans. Licenses were given to those who had a lot of money, some from abroad and very few New Mexicans. This legalization law could give thousands of cannabis business owners the opportunity to participate in the industry.

Many entrepreneurs can’t wait to see how effective the process is and how we can be successful in the industry.

If you want to know if you’re a good candidate for a growth license, we can get you started. Be aware that this industry is not for everyone. We have been there; We know and have resources for you.

Let’s start with a reality check and a few questions:

Do you want to grow commercially?

Do you have access to at least $ 1 million?

Grow outdoors? Greenhouses? Grow indoors?

Do you have a strong team of professionals to support you?

Do you have a solid business plan?

These are just a few of the many questions you will face.
